Lane Kiffin's Brother Is Leaving FAU For Another Job

Lane Kiffin remains at FAU heading into the 2018 season. His brother does not.

Chris Kiffin, the younger brother of the Owls' head coach, is leaving the program for an NFL job. He's becoming a defensive assistant for the San Francisco 49ers.

The 36-year-old coach will serve as a "pass rush specialist" for San Francisco. The 49ers are entering Year 2 of the Kyle Shannahan era.

Chris Kiffin had spent just one season on FAU's staff. He previously was an assistant coach at Ole Miss.

Chris Kiffin helped transform FAU's defense into one of the best in the country in 2017. The Owls' defense improved from ranking No. 124 on defense in 2016 to No. 37 in 2017.

The younger brother of the popular head coach played collegiately at Colorado State. He began his coaching career at Idaho.

Chris Kiffin has also served as an assistant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Nebraska, USC and Arkansas State.

Lane Kiffin also lost his offensive coordinator this offseason. Kendal Briles left FAU for Houston. He was replaced by Charlie Weis Jr.
