John Franklin III, one of the stars of Netflix’s Last Chance U, is getting an opportunity in the NFL. He’s signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent.

Franklin was reportedly going to sign a contract with the Seattle Seahawks after going unpicked in the 2018 NFL Draft, but wound up trying out with the Bears in rookie minicamp. The former college quarterback and wide receiver tried out as a defensive back, and he must have done enough to impress the coaching staff in Chicago.

Franklin hinted at the move last night on Twitter and the Bears confirmed it today.

Franklin's college career was a unique and circuitous one. He signed with Florida State as a four-star quarterback recruit in 2014, but left after one season.

He played for East Mississippi Community College during the 2015 season when Netflix chronicled the program. After one season there, Franklin transferred to Auburn.

At AU, he ran for 430 yards and threw for 204 as the team's backup quarterback. He then finished his college career at FAU as a graduate transfer in 2017, playing wide receiver.

Now, he will have the chance to prove himself in the NFL.
