According to multiple reports, LSU will remove the interim tag from Ed Orgeron's title and name him the next head coach of the Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
Early Saturday morning, LSU announced that in a press conference at 1 p.m. ET, it would name its next head football coach. It didn't take long for the name to leak. Ed Orgeron, who has been the team's interim coach since the firing of Les Miles earlier this season, will officially be named the school's next head coach. Orgeron has posted a 5-2 record since taking over - losing to just Alabama and Florida.
It's currently unknown what Orgeron's contract will look like.
According to Ross Dellenger of The Advocate, since Tom Herman is "leaning" towards Texas, LSU went with Orgeron - its backup plan.
Orgeron has previous experience as a head coach in the SEC. In three years at Ole Miss, he led the Rebels to a 10-25 record with a 3-21 mark in the SEC.
But there's no doubt that Orgeron has won over LSU's players and its fan base. The next step? Challenging Nick Saban for SEC West supremacy.
