Quarterback Malik Zaire will be making his decision on a graduate transfer destination next month, and has a very surprising new team in the mix, according to a report.
Orange Bloods‘ Anwar Richardson says that Zaire will making his decision after his graduation from Notre Dame, which is set to take place on the weekend of May 19. Florida, Texas, and Wisconsin have been in the mix for a while, but Richardson says that Zaire is also weighing an interesting fourth opportunity: Harvard.
From what I was told on Tuesday morning, Zaire intends to finalize his decision within the next two weeks and will announce it after he graduates from Notre Dame. According to Notre Dame’s website, graduation ceremonies are May 19-21.
In addition, I was told a new school is in the mix.
Zaire is still considering Texas, Wisconsin and Florida, and the grad transfer quarterback has added Harvard to his short list. It remains unclear how serious Zaire is about playing Ivy League football. If he does go that route, Harvard would be his landing spot.
All of the schools involved have tenuous quarterback situations, but at Texas, for instance, it doesn’t seem like a guarantee that Zaire would beat out Shane Buechele. Harvard might be the easiest road to the starting job that Zaire seeks, and if he dominates the Ivy League for the year, he could still land on the NFL’s radar.
I’d still bet on one of the FBS programs in the mix, but there are certainly worse ideas than spending a year going to grad school at Harvard.
