On Tuesday afternoon, ESPN reporter Dan Murphy published an article concerning former Michigan State medical school dean William Strampel.
In the article, Murphy revealed Strampel, 70, is "charged with misconduct of a public official, fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of neglect of duty for the way he handled complaints" against former Michigan State gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar.
Following the completion of the piece, Murphy tweeted out article. In the tweet a photo of Michigan State's field was used - the image showed Michigan State's tribute to Mike Sadler who passed away in 2016 in a car accident.
Murphy immediately came under fire for the use of that photo, and asked ESPN to change the image when he was alerted to the issue. Here's the original photo.
Head coach Mark Dantonio wasn't happy with the photo used to promote the article and let Murphy know how he felt.
Dan Murphy made it clear that the photo with Mike Sadler's number inlaid on the Michigan State field was a stock photo that automatically generates.
It's important to note that companies like ESPN likely have someone other than the writer choose a photo for the article.
