According to 247Sports, Brown is the No. 3 wide receiver in the JUCO class of 2017 and the No. 13 overall recruit. This is great news for the Sooners, who will lose star wide receiver Dede Westbrook to the 2017 NFL Draft.
Oklahoma’s use of the slot receiver/speedy deep-threat has worked wonders over the past three years. It started with Sterling Shepard, who had a stellar junior season before being injured. Shepard returned for his senior season and dominated his opponents to the tune of 86 catches for 1,288 yards and 11 touchdowns before leaving for the NFL.
This year, Dede Westbrook stepped into that role, and performed even better than Shepard. Westbrook has 74 catches for 1,465 yards and 16 touchdowns on the season.
Brown’s frame is almost exactly identical to Shepard and Westbrook. Brown stands at 5’11” and weighs 170 pounds while Shepard stands at 5’10” and weighed in at 190 pounds. Westbrook is slightly taller, at 6′ but still weighs in around the same, at 176 pounds.
Brown could step into the same role and he will have large shoes to fill.
