Iowa knocked off Michigan on Saturday night, but it wasn't just the Wolverines who were affected by the surprise outcome.
Iowa scored one of the biggest upsets of the 2016 college football season on Saturday night, knocking off Michigan at home, 14-13, handing the Wolverines their first loss. But in a cruel twist of irony, Michigan's loss actually also screwed over Ohio State. Why?
Michigan's loss means that there is currently a three-way tie atop the Big Ten East standings - Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State are all 6-1. But the Buckeyes and Wolverines still have to play, so all three can't finish 8-1.
If Ohio State beats Michigan to finish 8-1, but winds up tied with Penn State, the Nittany Lions win the division. Penn State beat Ohio State a few weeks back, if you remember.
So yeah, Michigan losing here was terrible for Ohio State.
Of course, Penn State could lose one of its final two games - against either Rutgers or Michigan State. But at this point, that'd be unlikely.
The Big Ten race just got really complicated. It should be an interesting few weeks.
