Michigan State vs. Northwestern preview:
Northwestern started this season with two losses. One to a quality Western Michigan opponent who is now ranked in the AP Top 25. The other is a different story. The Wildcats dropped a 9-7 contest against Illinois State, an FCS opponent. They have slowly turned their season around, with a solid win over Duke in Week 3 and a good performance against Iowa in a 38-31 win last week.
Michigan State was 2-0 and found itself ranked No. 8 in the country going into a game against No. 11 Wisconsin. It's been all downhill since that game, which the Spartans lost 30-6. Sparty followed up that loss with back-to-back losses against Indiana and BYU and now sit at 2-3 on the season.
Michigan State and Northwestern have played 54 times in history, with the Spartans owning a 37-17 advantage.
Michigan State vs. Northwestern prediction:
Both Michigan State and Northwestern are on down years. Especially the Spartans, who won the Big Ten Championship just last year. Both clubs are hoping to avoid their third loss on the season, which would all but dash their bowl berth hopes.
The Spartans hold a slight edge on both offense and defense and they get the Wildcats at home. Sparty in a close game.
