Ohio State running back Mike Weber has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
Ohio State's Mike Weber has been named Thompson–Randle El Freshman of the Year, the Big Ten announced Wednesday. The freshman tailback rushed for 1,072 yards on 177 carries for an average of 6.1 yards per rush. He also hauled in 20 receptions for 87 yards and totaled nine touchdowns.
Just one of three Ohio State Buckeyes to rush for over 1,000 yards, Mike Weber will go down in Ohio State football history.
Although he redshirted his true freshman year, Weber dominated the Buckeyes opponents early this year. The tailback rushed for at least 120 yards in three of his first four games, including a 144-yard performance against Rutgers in which he averaged 10.3 yards per carry.
Ohio State sits in great position for a spot in the College Football Playoff. It will need Weber to be in his early-season form for the Buckeyes to contend for a national championship.
