The Nebraska Cornhuskers lost a heartbreaker to Iowa at home on Friday, finishing the season with a 5-7 record. Unfortunately, that means the team will not be bowl eligible for the third straight season.

Nebraska's loss led to many, many users on social media - including some prominent ones - joking about the state of the program. Many made the same joke.

Nebraska was ranked in the preseason AP Poll and picked by many to win the Big Ten West this season. The Cornhuskers, however, didn't even finish with a winning record.

The joke? Nebraska will somehow be ranked again to start next season, with many analysts picking the Cornhuskers to turn it all around in year three of the Scott Frost era.

All kidding aside, this was a devastating loss for the program. Nebraska fans won't be able to root for their team in a bowl game or have the prospect of finishing with a winning record. It's crushing for recruiting too.

Next year is going to be huge for Frost. If he's unable to produce a winning record at Nebraska after three seasons he's going to have a tough time keeping support of the fan base.
