Ohio State Athlete Shot In Off-Campus Shooting
An Ohio State Buckeyes student-athlete has been the victim of an off-campus shooting.
Ohio State announced on Monday that one of the Buckeyes' student-athletes was the innocent victim of an off-campus shooting over the weekend. An Ohio State soccer player was reportedly struck by a bullet in an off-campus shooting following the Buckeyes' match with Wake Forest on Saturday.
Buckeyes redshirt junior soccer player Nathan Demian, who is from Vancouver, British Columbia, was a victim of an off-campus shooting.
Ohio State made it clear that Nathan was not involved in "any altercation." He was simply the victim of an off-campus shooting.
Ohio State is asking for everyone to keep Nathan's friends and family members in their thoughts.
"The family has asked that everyone keep Nathan in their prayers. The department will do all it can to support Nathan, his family and the men's soccer program in every way possible."
Nathan has spoken incredibly highly of Ohio State.
“I chose Ohio State because I believe it is the best fit for me to continue my athletic and academic endeavors. Ohio State has a long and rich history in athletics filled with numerous championships across many sports. I want to do my part in taking the Men’s Soccer Program there as well," he said.
“My good friend Deylen Vellios also attends Ohio State and is someone who I have played with in Vancouver and for the National Team for many years. He only had good things to say about the program and a school as a whole.
“It was very important for me to go somewhere where I believe we can win the National Championship and I believe with the coaching staff and the players we have here we definitely can.”
Nathan is a 5-foot-10 redshirt junior. He was an Academic All-Big Ten performer in 2022 and '23.
Our thoughts are with him and his friends and family during this difficult time.
