College Football Writer Thinks Ryan Day Should Leave Ohio State Even If He Wins National Title

Ohio State is two wins away from another national title.

Ohio State finished the regular season at 10-2 and faced a lot of questions heading into the College Football Playoff but has answered all of them with ease so far.

The Buckeyes crushed Tennessee in the first round of the CFP before blowing out top-seeded Oregon in the Rose Bowl on January 1, 41-21. They jumped out to a 34-0 lead and never came close to relinquishing it.

They'll play the Texas Longhorns in the semifinals of the CFP on Friday (Cotton Bowl) and if they win that, they'll play for the national title against one of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish or the Penn State Nittany Lions.

The Buckeyes are the favorite to win it all and if they do, Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports thinks that head coach Ryan Day should leave the school.

"Whenever this Ohio State season ends, win or lose in this chase for the school's first national championship in 10 years, Day should get up at the postgame podium and check out. He should thank everyone before politely stepping down from his post as Ohio State's coach," Dodd writes, via CBS Sports

Day has faced a lot of criticism from Buckeyes fans these last couple of years since he hasn't led them to Big Ten titles or national titles. Making matters worse, they've also lost to the Michigan Wolverines, their biggest rival, four years in a row and most recently at home.

Still, he's quieted his critics and has a chance to quiet them even more if he can lead the Buckeyes to their first national title in a decade.

Kickoff for Friday's Cotton Bowl between the Buckeyes and Longhorns will be at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit will have the call.
