Ohio State Player Is Transferring Before Cotton Bowl vs. Texas

Ohio State is scheduled to take on Texas in the College Football Playoff at the Cotton Bowl on Friday night, but the Buckeyes' roster has taken a slight hit days before kickoff.

While Ohio State is two wins away from a national championship, Ryan Day's roster is not immune from the NCAA's transfer portal. Several notable Ohio State football players have transferred out since the end of the regular season. Now, a player is opting to transfer, a couple of days after the Rose Bowl win over No. 1 Oregon on New Year's Day.

The Buckeyes are losing a tight end to the NCAA transfer portal.

Ohio State tight end Patrick Gurd is transferring, according to 247Sports on Sunday.

From the report:

Ohio State tight end Patrick Gurd has entered the transfer portal, @chris_hummer and I have learned for @cbssports / @247Sports . Has played in 21 games the last two years for the Buckeyes, including 13 games this season.

Ohio State is scheduled to take on No. 5 Texas in the College Football Playoff at the Cotton Bowl on Friday night. The Buckeyes are coming off a dominant, 41-21 win over No. 1 seed Oregon at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

The Buckeyes have entered Friday night's game against the Longhorns as a touchdown favorite. Ohio State is the clear-cut favorite to win it all at this point. The Buckeyes are the betting frontrunner heading into the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Ohio State and Texas are scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. E.T. on Friday night. The College Football Playoff semifinal game is set to air on ESPN.
