Ohio State Projected To Have Country's No. 1 Quarterback Competition

Some of college football's premier title contenders will hand the offense to a new starting quarterback in 2023.

Noteworthy schools are entering summer with an open quarterback competition. However, R.J. Young believes the most interesting one to watch is taking place at Ohio State.

"The guy that wins between Kyle McCord and Devin Brown feels like the dude that is going to inherit a machine that is capable of getting back to the College Football Playoff," Young said on The Number One College Football Show.

Young pinpointed Ohio State as the top quarterback derby to monitor over Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, and UCLA.

C.J. Stroud finished each of the last two seasons as a Heisman Trophy finalist, but consecutive losses to Michigan soured an otherwise commendable run. Young looked for McCord or Brown to "hit the ground running" in his place this fall.

McCord recorded 319 passing yards and two touchdowns in a 2021 blowout win over Akron before completing 16 of 20 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown last season. Young credited that experience for giving the sophomore the upper hand in the race.

Brown, on the other hand, has yet to throw a pass for the Buckeyes.
