Ohio State is not looking good against Purdue this evening. The Buckeyes are looking pretty bad, actually. OSU is trailing the Boilermakers by double digits in the fourth quarter.

It's Purdue 21, Ohio State 6 as we begin the final quarter of the night.

Can Ohio State come back? Maybe, but the Buckeyes would need to start playing a kind of football they haven't come close to playing all night.

At this point, it's looking like Ohio State will be suffering its first loss of the season. Can the Buckeyes still make the College Football Playoff if that happens?

Sure, but it's going to be difficult.

Here's ESPN's FiveThirtyEight College Football Playoff projection assuming Ohio State loses tonight:

  • FiveThirtyEight gives Ohio State a 27 percent chance to make the College Football Playoff with a loss tonight. The Buckeyes would have a 6 percent chance of winning the national title.

Who benefits the most from a loss by Ohio State tonight? ESPN's FiveThirtyEight thinks it is a couple of teams:

  • Oklahoma, Michigan and Georgia all see their College Football Playoff chances increase on FiveThirtyEight's system with a loss by Ohio State tonight.

Ohio State and Purdue, meanwhile, are still on ABC. You're probably going to want to tune in for the finish.
