Who Is Oklahoma's Backup Quarterback To Baker Mayfield?

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was arrested in Arkansas on four charges Saturday morning. If he's suspended by the program for any amount of time, Sooners fans will see a new signal-caller behind center.

Following Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield's arrest on Saturday, many Oklahoma fans are wondering what punishment - if any - the Sooners' signal-caller will face from the school. Mayfield, a Heisman Trophy candidate, has been the program's starter for two years, and is projected to get the nod again in 2017.

Should Mayfield face suspension, or, in a less likely event, get booted from the team, Oklahoma will need to turn to its backup quarterback.

Last year's backup was freshman Austin Kendall, who finished 16-of-22 for 143 yards and two touchdowns on the season. But it's actually more likely that Kyler Murray, who transferred in from Texas A&M, will be the backup in 2017. Murray is a former five-star recruit who left the Aggies after one season in College Station. He sat out the 2016 campaign, per NCAA rules.

It's important to note that Oklahoma's first opponent, UTEP, is beatable regardless of who is behind center. But in week two, the Sooners head to Columbus to take on Ohio State. We'll know more once Oklahoma announces Mayfield's punishment.
