Will Oregon break the bank for its next head coaching hire?
Oregon has played in two national title games this decade, but both times, the Ducks came up short. According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, the school's biggest benefactor, Phil Knight, is willing to pay up to get a third shot. Rovell is reporting that talk is "heating up" regarding Knight throwing $10 million per year at the school's next coach.
For reference, the highest-paid coach in 2016 is Michigan's Jim Harbaugh at $9 million per year.
Obviously, this assumes that current head coach Mark Helfrich gets the boot. But who would replace him? Outside of Nick Saban, who the Ducks aren't going to land, there isn't really anyone who would bring guaranteed success. It'll be interesting to see what happens here.
