Philip Rivers' Son Lands His First Big Scholarship Offer

Gunner Rivers reportedly received his first official SEC scholarship offer.

The son of former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers plays for his father at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Alabama. Gunner, the oldest of Philip's 10 children, is quickly rising the recruiting ranks after amassing 70 passing touchdowns in two seasons. He's a five-star recruit and the No. 4 quarterback from the class of 2027 in the 247Sports composite rankings.

According to WKRG's Simone Eli, Gunner received a scholarship offer from Auburn. Tigers quarterbacks coach Kent Austin and wide receivers coach Marcus Davis visited him on Tuesday.

However, they're not the only SEC program that's indicated interest. Alabama and Texas A&M also went to St. Michael Catholic to see Rivers this week. The sophomore met with Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer on Tuesday.

Rivers received his first publicly known scholarship offer from NC State in May. It's also possible the family has concealed other early recruiting developments.

Last August, CBS Sports scout Andrew Ivins noted that Rivers' 3,077 passing yards and 29 touchdowns as a freshman would typically yield "a flurry of scholarship offers." However, everyone is less privy to recruiting updates because he's not active on social media.

"It's still way too early to label a rising 10th grader a 'can't-miss' recruit, but the younger Rivers looks like he has a chance to emerge as one of the top overall talents in the class," Ivins wrote.

Gunner has big shoes to follow as a quarterback with Rivers on the back of his jersey.

Philip Rivers is sixth in all-time NFL passing yards (63,440) and touchdowns (421). The eight-time Pro Bowler topped 4,300 passing yards in each of the final eight seasons of his 17-year career and went 15 years without missing a game.

The older Rivers will be first eligible for Hall of Fame induction in 2026, so Gunner should see his dad get enshrined in Canton before graduating high school. By then, he'll likely have plenty more scholarship offers.
