Wednesday, Dec. 21, the BYU Cougars take on the Wyoming Cowboys in the Poinsettia Bowl. The game, to be played at Qualcomm Stadium, is slated for a 9:00 p.m. ET start time and will be broadcast on ESPN. Read on for our BYU vs. Wyoming preview.
According to ESPN’s matchup predictor, which is based on its Football Power Index, BYU wins the matchup between the two teams 77.7% of the time. The spread, via OddsShark, has the Cougars favored as well.

BYU vs. Wyoming preview:
BYU (8-4) ended the regular season on a high-note with a 28-10 win over Utah State putting the Cougars on a four-game winning streak. Wyoming (8-5) dropped its last two games of the regular season with the latest being a 27-24 loss to San Diego State.
Wyoming out gained SDSU 343 yards to 327 yards, but gave up 242 yards on the ground. Josh Allen threw for 2,996 yards during the regular season to go along with 26 touchdowns and 13 picks. Running back Brian Hill was a workhorse as he rushed for 1,767 yards and 21 touchdowns.
BYU held Utah State to just 200 yards in its regular season finale win. Taysom Hill ended the regular season with 2,323 passing yards and 20 total touchdowns including eight on the ground. Running back Jamaal Williams had 1,165 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on the year.
BYU has lost three straight bowl games which includes last year’s loss to Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl. Wyoming last played in a bowl game in 2011 where it fell to Temple in the New Mexico Bowl.
BYU vs. Wyoming Prediction:
This could turn into a long day for Wyoming, specifically on the defensive side of the ball.
The Cowboys allow 464 yards per game which ranks 112th in the nation. Their offense may be able to keep up, but BYU’s defensive group is no slouch as it gives up just 364 yards per contest.
