Ohio State, Michigan Assistants Reportedly Likely To Be Targeted For Purdue Job

Purdue has fired Darrell Hazell.

Darrell Hazell, Purdue's football coach of three-and-a-half seasons, was fired earlier this afternoon. He had compiled a 9-33 record with the Boilermakers.

Purdue now begins its process of attempting to find someone to take over the program.

Who will the Boilermakers be looking to hire?

Former LSU head coach Les Miles will likely be a target, along with some young coaches on the rise like Western Michigan's P.J. Fleck, but the Boilermakers might end up hiring a current Big Ten assistant.

USA TODAY's Dan Wolken says that "pretty much every" assistant for Michigan and Ohio State will be a candidate.

Those assistants:

  • Ohio State co-defensive coordinators Luke Fickell and Greg Schiano
  • Ohio State co-offensive coordinators Ed Warinner and Tim Beck
  • Ohio State assistant head coach Larry Johnson
  • Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown
  • Michigan passing game coordinator Jedd Fisch
  • Michigan offensive coordinator Tim Drevno
