Report: Lane Kiffin, Charlie Strong Among Candidates For USF Job

The South Florida job is now open. It's seen as a good one.

With Willie Taggart off to Oregon, USF is now looking for a new head coach. It looks like the South Florida program has a pretty nice list of candidates to look at.

According to Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman, the following big names are likely to be involved in the coaching search:

  • Alabama offense coordinator Lane Kiffin
  • Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano
  • Former Texas head coach Charlie Strong

Kiffin has previously been mentioned as USF's No. 1 candidate if Taggart was to leave.

From Sports Talk Florida:

South Florida head coach Willie Taggart is one of the hottest candidates for openings at Power 5 Conferences. He met in Dallas with the University of Oregon to fill their head coaching opening and his is considered as a real contender. If Taggart leaves Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, will be the top target to be the Bulls head coach. Kiffin has plenty of Tampa ties, which will get to a bit later.

Kiffin has also been linked to the Houston job, and many think that's the head coaching gig he'll end up getting.

Strong has good Florida ties and the USF job could be a nice landing spot for him, too.

Schiano, meanwhile, spent two years in Tampa Bay, coaching the Buccaneers.
