The Army Knights embarrassed the Houston Cougars earlier this bowl season with a 70-14 win in the Armed Forces Bowl. After the loss, Houston has reportedly weighed its options with head coach Major Applewhite.

According to a new report from SB Nation, the Cougars are reportedly set to part ways with Applewhite, who coached the team for just two years. Applewhite led the team to a 15-10 record in two seasons.

Houston plans to make a run at West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen after firing Applewhite in the near future, the report states.

Here's more from SB Nation:

Houston plans on firing head football coach Major Applewhite after just two seasons, multiple sources have confirmed to SB Nation.

The school has begun to evaluate multiple candidates, most notably West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen.

Football Scoop first reported the Cougars would turn to Holgorsen to lead the program after letting Applewhite go. Now we'll have to wait and see if Holgorsen wants to leave a Power 5 program for a Group of 5 team.

Stay tuned.
