Report: Tom Herman Searched Fan Message Boards At Houston For “Leaks”

Controlling the message is apparently very, very important for Tom Herman.

A story surfaced Tuesday that claimed Tom Herman asked the parents of his Texas players to stay away from reporters.

“Tom Herman told Texas parents to be positive about the team on social media and not to speak with reporters, a parent said,” Brian Davis of the Austin-American Statesman reported.

Mike Finger of the San Antonio Express-News has a deeper delve into Herman’s mindset and one of the details in his latest column is pretty revealing.

Herman reportedly searched fan message boards at Houston to search for “leaks” within his program.

So that might have taught Herman something about laying down the law to grown-ups who didn’t sign up to play for him. And it might have been another reminder that the message is more difficult to manage at a place like UT than it was at Houston, where he was known to even keep tabs on fan message boards to sniff out leaks.

Herman’s a brilliant head coach, but he’s never dealt with the pressure that comes with a job like Texas. Controlling his message is only going to get harder in Austin.
