Colorado State appears to be on the verge of hiring a new head football coach, potentially with an assist from Urban Meyer.
Yesterday, former Cincinnati and Tennessee head coach Butch Jones was reportedly emerging as a “strong candidate” for the position. Now, former Indiana head coach and current Ohio State offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson has entered the race, according to Football Scoop.
Wilson has spent the last three seasons as the OC at Ohio State, first under Meyer and then Ryan Day. Football Scoop reports that Meyer has been involved in the search at Colorado State.
Of note: Urban Meyer advised Colorado State and, sources say, sat in on meetings as a representative of the Rams.
Assuming this is true, it sounds like good news for Wilson. He’s clearly well-connected to Meyer, a onetime Colorado State assistant himself.
In six seasons as the head coach at Indiana (2011-16), Wilson compiled a 26-47 overall record. He reached a bowl game in each of his last two seasons.
Colorado State finished 4-8 this season after a 3-9 campaign in 2018.
