One of the top players on Virginia Tech's defense has issued a stunning announcement, revealing that he's transferring out of the program.

Rico Kearney, a standout linebacker for the Hokies, announced on Twitter today that he's going to transfer out.

The linebacker announced the news on Twitter:

Kearney, a class of 2017 recruit, had nearly 20 tackles in a game just two weeks ago. "Wow. Linebacker Rico Kearney announces on Twitter that he plans to transfer. Had 18 tackles against BC two weeks ago when Rayshard Ashby was hurt. Gave way back a healthy Ashby against Miami. That was quick," Andy Bitter tweeted.
