A starting quarterback has been suspended for the beginning of the 2018 college football season. Southern Miss quarterback Kwadra Griggs has been suspended indefinitely.
The university released a statement citing a "student conduct matter" as the reason for his suspension. It's unclear what the matter is, or how long Griggs will be suspended.
Griggs is the team's returning starter. He battled a number of injuries during the 2017 season, but looked to maintain a grip on the team's starting QB job.
Here's the announcement from the school.
Griggs completed 55.8 percent of his passes for 1,879 yards, 16 touchdowns and two interceptions during the 2017 campaign. The returning starter has been in a battle with sophomore transfer quarterback Jack Abraham for the team's starting job.
This certainly won't help matters heading into the season.
