Tuesday morning, Sports Illustrated released its college football preview issue, and four major quarterbacks landed the cover – Oregon’s Justin Herbert, Georgia’s Jake Fromm, Texas’ Sam Ehlinger and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence. Now, we’re getting a look at the publication’s preseason rankings.
Most outlets, including the actual Coaches’ Poll, are going with defending national champion Clemson as the No. 1 team in the country to start the 2019 season. SI is not. Alabama, which lost to the Tigers in the title game a year ago, opens at No. 1.
Clemson, as you’d imagine, is No. 2. Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas round out the top five. The Longhorns are ranked a bit higher here than elsewhere.
Here’s the top 10. If you’re interested in the full top 25, head over to SI to check it out:
- Ohio State
- Notre Dame
Michigan comes in at No. 11. The Wolverines are ranked in the top five in most of the other polls heading into the season.
The back end of the rankings is loaded with Big Ten teams, including Penn State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan State and Nebraska.
College football fans – do they have it right? Should Alabama actually be the No. 1 team in the country heading into the season despite what happened last January?
