UNC vs. Stanford preview:

The Tar Heels had anything but steady season. Yes, they have eight wins on the season, but their losses are the most confusing part of their season. North Carolina lost to Georgia to open the season, okay fine. Then it got trounced by a Virginia Tech team that is as up and down as the Tar Heels themselves. Finally a loss to Duke makes us wonder which team the Tar Heels are. The team that took down Florida State, or the one who loses to lesser opponents?

Stanford’s up and down season has seen a few more ups lately than downs. The Cardinal enters this game on a five-game win streak. After Stanford’s first five games, the Cardinal sat at 3-2 with no idea who they were as a football team. Those two losses came from Washington and Washington State in which the Cardinal was outscored 86-22. The Cardinal won its final five games to solidify its place in a solid bowl.

The Tar Heels and Cardinal have played two times in history, splitting the series. The last game between these two programs was played in 1998.

UNC vs. Stanford prediction:

Christian McCaffrey just announced he is leaving Stanford for the NFL. That doesn't bode well for a team that heavily relied on the star running back for most of the year.
