Tate Martell’s college football career has been interesting, to say the least. He committed to Washington, then changed his mind and picked Texas A&M. He later decided against playing for the Aggies as well, landing at Ohio State as a freshman. After two years in Columbus, he decided to transfer to Miami in hopes of being able to start for the Hurricanes.
That apparently hasn’t worked out either. Monday, Miami announced that Jarren Williams will be the team’s starter. Martell is now again in a situation where he won’t see the field much.
Martell hasn’t exactly made the whole situation any easier on himself. As a recruit, he once trashed Texas A&M quarterback Nick Starkel. After Justin Fields transferred from Georgia to Ohio State, Martell took to Twitter with a warning that Fields shouldn’t “miss” twice.
Martell, predictably, is getting ripped online. The obvious joke? Martell will likely wind up back in the transfer portal.

Martell was given a waiver by the NCAA to become immediately eligible this season. If he transfers again, it’s hard to see that happening.
If Martell were to transfer, at least at the FBS level, he’d have to sit out a season. He’d have two years of eligibility remaining.
It’ll be interesting to see what Martell decides to do. It’s hard not to feel for him a little bit.
