Tate Martell arrived in Columbus last year as a highly-touted, four-star quarterback recruit. He redshirted his first season with the Buckeyes.
Martell will likely play a role for Ohio State in 2018; it is just a matter of what it will be. Will he win the starting quarterback job, or is he destined to be featured in certain packages while serving as the team’s primary backup?
The answer won’t come until the summer. Urban Meyer isn’t in any hurry to name Martell, Dwayne Haskins or Joe Burrow the starter.
In last weekend’s spring game, Martell was just 5-of-14 passing for 28 yards, but he showed off the tantalizing athleticism that makes him likely to see the field this fall one way or another.
Martell seems determined to prove he’s here to stay. Ohio State fans should enjoy this tweet he had on Monday night.
“It’s just the beginning,” it said.

Whether or not Martell is the starting quarterback this season, he should make his Buckeye debut sooner rather than later. That’s enough to have himself and OSU fans excited.
