Thad Matta Reveals Nasty Negative Recruiting Claim

The Ohio State head coach revealed a nasty negative recruiting claim this afternoon.

Thad Matta will be back at Ohio State in 2017-18. The Buckeyes struggled this year and Matta has dealt with some health issues in the past, but he'll be on the sideline next year, Yahoo's Pat Forde reported on Monday night.

At a press conference this afternoon, Matta addressed the report, saying he feels fine physically, but added that someone negatively recruited against him by claiming he was dying. Seriously.

Negative recruiting is unfortunately a part of the college basketball and college football worlds - why would you go there when this is happening? you know this school does this, right? etc. - but claiming another head coach is dying is obviously crossing the line.

Ohio State opens its postseason play on Wednesday night against Rutgers in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in Washington, D.C. The Buckeyes need a tournament title to make the NCAA Tournament.
