Week 3 of the 2019 college football season featured a couple of notable upsets, with Maryland falling to Temple, Michigan State losing to Arizona State and USC getting beaten by BYU.
What upsets will Week 4 bring?
Here are the three top 25 teams we have on “Upset Alert” heading into the fourth weekend of the regular season.
No. 9 Florida vs. Tennessee
Betting line: Florida -14.0
The Gators will be starting backup Kyle Trask in this one, as starter Feleipe Franks is out for the season with a brutal injury. Trask played well in the win at Kentucky, leading Florida back for a come-from-behind win.
Tennessee has been highly disappointing this season, but the Vols should get up for this one, and Florida really hasn’t looked like a top 10 team all year.
No. 15 UCF at Pittsburgh
Betting line: UCF -12.5
The Knights might be one of the country’s most-underrated teams right now. That’s what Kirk Herbstreit thinks, anyway.
“I’m surprised — what are they, 17? They should be [ranked] in that 9, 10 range, personally. I think that because we’ve now seen this brand and they’ve been able to beat some high-profile teams and they’ve been able to compete with some high-profile teams in bowl games. That’s how you build it. That’s how Boise State built it,” he said. “And now when you beat a Stanford, and the way they beat them, they need to be taken more seriously. They need to get more respect. And I think this team in 2019 is the beneficiary of what they’ve done in ’17 and ’18 and now people need to start to kind of say, ‘Uh oh.’”
We don’t really disagree with any of that, though road games are tough and Pittsburgh, despite being 1-2, looked strong against Penn State last week.
Perhaps UCF is due for a letdown following the big win over Stanford.
No. 16 Oregon at Stanford
Betting line: Oregon -10.0
The Ducks have played well since their Week 1 loss against Auburn. Oregon could be on the way toward a Pac-12 championship if the strong play continues.
Stanford, meanwhile, is coming off a tough loss against UCF. The Cardinal have traditionally given the Ducks problems, though, and David Shaw certainly knows what it takes to pull off an upset.
