The Capacity For Ohio State's Spring Game Is Less Than Normal, Here's Why

The Buckeyes won't be able to have a record-setting crowd this weekend.

Ohio State had more than 100,000 fans watch its spring game last year. The Buckeyes had 100,189 people in Ohio Stadium last April, by far the highest total of any team in the country.

The crowd at this year's game, set to take place on Saturday, will be significantly smaller.

Ohio Stadium's east C Deck is currently undergoing renovations, so about 20,000 seats will be unavailable this weekend. The capacity for this year's game is 84,000, according to the school.

Ohio State should still have one of the most-attended spring games in the country. Clemson currently leads the attendance rankings with 60,000, but that mark should get bested by the Buckeyes (and others) this weekend.

The renovations might prevent OSU from having the most-attended spring game in the Big 10, though. Nebraska has already sold more than 65,000 tickets to its game and seems primed to have a crowd bigger than 80,000.

Ohio Stadium will be back at capacity by the start of the season. Urban Meyer's team opens its season on Thursday, Aug. 31 at Indiana.
