These 7 Teams Could Become Bowl Eligible On Saturday, And Here's How Much Their Head Coaches Would Make

Seven schools are set to become bowl eligible this weekend.

There are eight 5-0 teams in college football, and seven are set to play this weekend. And since it only takes six wins to become bowl eligible, we could see several teams lock up a bowl game berth on Saturday.

Here are the seven teams:

  • Alabama
  • Clemson
  • Georgia
  • Penn State
  • San Diego State
  • Washington
  • Washington State

USF is the eighth 5-0 team, but the Bulls have a bye this weekend.

And for many college football coaches, bowl game eligibility means a nice little bonus, and all of the head coaches of the above teams will receive one if they get the win this weekend—that is, unless you're Dabo Swinney. His bonus doesn't kick in until the Tigers win eight games.

Penn State head coach James Franklin will got a colossal $200,00o payout if the Nittany Lions take down Northwestern.

Here's how the bonuses shake out for each head coach:

  • Nick Saban (Alabama) — $65,000
  • Kirby Smart (Georgia) — $50,000
  • James Franklin (Penn State) — $200,000
  • Rocky Long (San Diego State) — $50,000
  • Chris Petersen (Washington) — $75,000
  • Mike Leach (Washington State) — $75,000

Keep in mind that these are bonuses just for making lower-tier bowl games, and the numbers really start to climb once teams enter the CFP sphere of bowl games.
