College football season is over, and Clemson is the best team in the land. The Tigers earned that title not just because of their victory in the CFP title game.
Clemson also took home the most territory in SB Nation’s Empires Map. The map changes weekly throughout the season.
Here is a look at what the final map looks like.

Clemson was No. 1 with 73 territories. Next behind them was Ohio State with 26, followed by LSU (12), Oregon (6) and UNLV (4).
Teams can gain or lose territory based on game results. Here is the quick explanation of how it works, via SBNation.
To begin the season, each FBS team was given control of its surrounding territory. Each game that involves one or two teams with territory results in the winner claiming all of it. Results carry on week to week, so teams are always in the process of trying to regain or expand land. For more detailed rules, check out Week 1’s explanation.
It shouldn’t be a surprise to see Clemson all over the map, literally. When you become the first college football team in over 100 years to go 15-0, that will happen.
