This Stat Bodes Well For Notre Dame's Chances This Season

Some good news for Irish fans.

Notre Dame enters the 2017 season coming off a 4-8 campaign. The pressure is on head coach Brian Kelly.

The Fighting Irish were unranked in the first AP Poll released today, despite the fact one voter put them third on his ballot. But overall, being outside the top 25 might not be a bad thing.

ESPN's Chris Fallica produced a stat indicating that the last time ND was unranked in the preseason was 2012, when they went 12-0 in the regular season and played for the national title.

In 2012, Notre Dame rode a stout defense, strong rushing attack and some 'luck of the Irish' to the BCS championship game.

This year's defense should be improved from last year, and the Irish have a veteran offensive line and a number of quality running backs.

Can they make the CFP? Most likely not, but crazier things have happened.
