Toledo vs. Appalachian State preview:
Toledo will enter the game looking for redemption after getting smacked around by Western Michigan to close out the regular season, losing 55-35. The Rockets boast a potent offense led by one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, Logan Woodside, who threw a sublime 43 touchdown passes this year with only nine interceptions. He has his work cut out for him, as he'll be throwing into a defense that feasts on turnovers.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers will enter this game having won eight of their last nine, all of which were two-score victories. They rely heavily on their defense to force turnovers, and the Mountaineer defense finished third in the nation with 20 interceptions. The battle between the defense and Toledo's Woodside will be the marquee match-up to watch.
Toledo vs. Appalachian State prediction:
These teams, at least according to ESPN's FPI, are about as evenly matched as you can get, and for that reason I'm taking the Mountaineers. They have the toughest defense the Rockets will face all year, and I'm always impartial to defense in big games. The Mountaineers will force turnovers and create plenty of scoring opportunities for the offense.
