Travis Hunter Ended Heisman Trophy Race With Friday's Incredible Performance
ESPN's Paul Finebaum may have called the Heisman Trophy race this morning, but Colorado's superstar wideout/cornerback Travis Hunter basically ended the race for good with his performance today.
Colorado have been absolutely destroying the Oklahoma State Cowboys at Folsom Field today. As of writing they are up 52-0 against the Cowboys midway through the fourth quarter and have begun resting starters to let some of the seniors play. But that was only after Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders made mincemeat out of the Cowboys defense.
Sanders completed 34 of 41 passes for 438 yards and five touchdowns prior to getting the rest of the day off. 10 of those completions were to Hunter for 116 yards and a career-high three touchdown receptions.
But while all three of his scores were great, it was this third one while an Oklahoma State was draped all over him that really sealed the prestigious trophy for him.
Even the announcers were stunned by how incredible his catch was:
Hunter may not be breaking college football records with his performance, but it wasn't just his offensive production that may have sealed the Heisman for his trophy cabinet.
He had an interception on the very first Oklahoma State offensive drive, giving him four on the year. And he could have had one or two more interceptions if he had just been able to snatch a contested ball a couple of times.
While Oklahoma State may be one of the worst teams in the Big 12 this year, the fact of the matter is that Hunter proved that he can show up and ball out on both sides of the ball against a power conference foe today - and in all 11 games before this one.
Hunter is the betting favorite to win the Heisman and at this point it would be downright stunning if he didn't win the award by a pretty big margin.
The only player who most people believe could even challenge him is Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty.
Do you think Hunter locked up the Heisman today, or is there anyone left who can challenge him for the prestigious award?
