The family of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has released a statement in the wake of his devastating season-ending injury suffered on Saturday at Mississippi State.
Tagovailoa underwent surgery on Monday. It was successful and the long-term prognosis for the quarterback is excellent. Tagovailoa is expected to make a full recovery and could be back on the field in 2020.
The Alabama quarterback has received an outpouring of support from friends, family and fans. The Tagovailoa family is thankful.
“We would like to thank all of the Alabama family and everyone across the world for the prayers and outpouring of love and support for our son and our family,” the statement reads. “We felt the unceasing prayer, and words can’t express how overwhelming and uplifting that has been for us. We have total faith in God’s plan for Tua, and we know his plan is never wrong.”

Tagovailoa has appeared to be in good spirits despite the injury. He reportedly told Nick Saban that he couldn’t wait to get back for Saturday’s game against Western Carolina.
Alabama is set to kick off on Saturday at noon E.T. on ESPN.
