Notre Dame is off to a 4-0 start and ranked in the top 10 nationally. The Fighting Irish have even navigated an early-season quarterback change without issue.

Brandon Wimbush, who was Notre Dame's starter in 2017 and started the first three games this season, was benched last weekend in favor of backup Ian Book. It was a move that seemed to pay immediate dividends.

Book threw for 325 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 43 yards and three more scores, leading Notre Dame to a 56-27 victory. In the process, he appears to have taken over the starting role permanently.

Wimbush was a four-star recruit in the 2015 class who produced 30 total touchdowns in 2017, but his struggles as a passer ultimately led to him being benched. There's a chance he could be needed at some point this season though, especially given Brian Kelly's history with quarterbacks.

In the meantime, his mother is encouraging him to keep plowing ahead. Heather Wimbush shared a message to her son on Twitter today.

In it, she said he has already scored his most important touchdown: a Notre Dame degree.

Wimbush already redshirted in 2016, so he isn't eligible to do so this year, even though he's only played in four games. However, he could go elsewhere as a grad transfer next season.

Whatever he decides, Wimbush's future is bright. Even if he's not playing football, he's regarded as an intelligent, well-grounded individual who has interned at KPMG and Accel while in college. He clearly has a solid family support system as well.

He should be fine.
