The Tar Heels opened the season with a loss to then No. 18 Georgia, and followed that up with four straight wins, including a big win over then No. 12 Florida State. North Carolina then got hammered by Virginia Tech in a 34-3 blowout loss. The Tar Heels bounced back with a 20-13 win over No. 16 Miami. This game could depend on which North Carolina team shows up to play.
Virginia has struggled to find wins all season. The Cavaliers opened the season with three straight losses before picking up a pair of two-touchdown wins over Central Michigan and Duke. Virginia then stumbled against a solid Pitt team in a 45-31 loss.
