The Cougars football team won't take the field for their season opener.
Due to catastrophic flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey, the Houston Athletic Department has decided to cancel/postpone all athletic events scheduled for this weekend.
Houston's football team had a contest scheduled for September 2 at the University of Texas-San Antonio, but that game has been postponed.
The two schools are working on rescheduling the game for later in the season.
From the statement:
Houston Football’s scheduled season opener for Saturday at UTSA has been postponed as the universities will explore rescheduling the game for a date later in the season. More information regarding tickets will be released as information is finalized.
The Cougars had moved to Austin in order to practice this past weekend, but due to the severity of the flooding, the team will explore rescheduling options.
Houston's first home game will come in the third week of the season when the team hosts Rice on Sept. 16.
