Former Ohio State head coach turned FOX Sports college football analyst Urban Meyer weighed in on Chase Young’s suspension on Friday night.
Young, arguably the most-dominant player in college football, was suspended indefinitely by the NCAA on Friday. He is alleged to have taken a loan from a family friend to help his girlfriend attend the Rose Bowl last season. Young has reportedly already paid the loan back.
Meyer shared on Friday night that he learned of this earlier in the week. Here’s what the former Ohio State head coach is hearing.
“I first found out early in the week, talked to Gene Smith and was just as shocked as everybody,” Meyer said on Fox Sports 1. “I think my understanding is the transparency – Chase and his family have been very forthright – which is the key whenever you’re dealing with NCAA issues. He’s working with Ohio State and the NCAA to get this thing wrapped up.
“My understanding is once again, the most important thing is transparency, honesty. He realized he made a mistake – this is what I always appreciated about a guy like Chase – he made a mistake, he owned it and he’s working to get it corrected.”
Young will miss today’s Ohio State-Maryland game as a result of the suspension. It’s unclear when he will return to the field.
Bruce Feldman had more details on the suspension.
