William & Mary Football Player Reportedly Killed Thursday Night

William & Mary football player Nate Evans was shot and killed on Thursday night in Norfolk, according to multiple reports and the university itself.

According to, officers were called to the 800 block of W. 43rd St. last night just before midnight. They found Evans on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Evans was only 19 years old.

“Our university and Athletics Department are part of a tight knit community, and Nate's loss will be felt deeply,” W&M athletics director Samantha Huge said in a statement. “We have provided university counselors and psychologists to support Nate’s teammates, coaches and friends. Most importantly, our thoughts and prayers are with Nate's family and friends during this difficult time.”

A rising junior running back, Evans was the team's second-leading rusher in 2018. In nine games (eight starts), he carried 70 times for 208 yards and two touchdowns while adding 10 receptions for 47 yards.

As a freshman in 2017, Evans appeared in 10 games with six starts. He led the Tribe in rushing with 476 yards and three touchdowns on 119 carries.
