5-Star Basketball Recruit Announces Surprising Commitment
One of the top athlete recruits in college basketball has announced his college decision. It's a surprising one.
Josiah James, a five-star combo guard out of Charleston, Sc., announced his decision in front of a packed crowd.
He's headed to Tennessee.
This comes as somewhat of a surprise, considering the top athlete was believed by most to be considering Clemson or Michigan State more. The Tigers were a heavy favorite to land the top recruit, according to 247Sports' Crystal Ball predictions.
James was scheduled to visit Duke this weekend, but decided against it. He's going to be a Vol, though.
Here's the announcement from local Charleston reporter Daren Stoltzfus.
This is a huge pickup for Rick Barnes and the Volunteer faithful. James is ranked the No. 14 overall recruit by 247Sports' Composite Rankings for the 2019 class.
Tennessee made a surprising run to the NCAA Tournament in 2018 after an impressive season. The addition of a star guard won't hurt matters moving forward.
With James' commitment, Tennessee vaults into the top-10 in 2019 recruiting classes.
