Five-star power forward DeAndre Ayton announced his college decision moments ago on SportsCenter on ESPN2.
Arizona has landed a huge commitment this evening, courtesy of Phoenix (Ariz.) Hillcrest Hoops five-star power forward DeAndre Ayton. The No. 1 player in the 2017 class, Ayton picked the Wildcats over Kansas and Kentucky during a live broadcast of SportsCenter.
The 7-foot-, 235-pound Ayton, who compared his game to Kevin Garnett, seemed relieved to end the recruiting process.
"It's been rough, to be honest," he told ESPN. "Phone call after phone call, trying to do homework, staying in the gym. My mom and I just tried to stay level-headed and be down to earth with it."
Ayton joins four-star point guard Alex Barcello as verbal commitments for Arizona in this cycle. There's been speculation that he'll forego college and play professionally overseas before entering the 2018 NBA Draft. However, Ayton he said today he has no intention of doing that.
