On Tuesday night, the College Football Playoff committee released its penultimate rankings. While the college football world was focused on what the new rankings means for the top teams on the country, one of the biggest upsets in college basketball was just beginning.

Penn State and No. 13 Virginia Tech met in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Nittany Lions played tough for much of the first half, but gave up their lead to the Hokies and trailed 37-35 at the half.

Penn State battled back in the second half and held together late and escaped with a 63-62 win to hand Virginia Tech its first loss of the season.

With the win, Penn State moves to 4-2 on the season and sets up a date with No. 24 Maryland to kick off December. The Nittany Lions finished the 2017-18 season on a high note after winning the NIT championship.

Can Penn State keep the momentum going? Stay tuned.
