There weren't too many people in the stands for this one.

As the Big Ten continues to push it attempts to develop its East Coast audience, two of the conference's basketball teams played a special game in New York City this afternoon. Ohio State and Minnesota faced off at Madison Square Garden.

It was part of the league's third annual "Super Saturday" in which there's a basketball game followed by a hockey game at MSG. Here's more info from the Big Ten:

The third annual "Super Saturday - College Hoops & Hockey" doubleheader will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20 at Madison Square Garden. Ohio State defeated Minnesota in men's basketball, 67-49, and the Gophers will take on Michigan State in hockey on Saturday night.

The 2017 Super Saturday saw a pair of dramatic finishes as Wisconsin defeated Rutgers in overtime, 61-54, in men's basketball and the Badgers' hockey squad beat Ohio State, also in overtime, in the night cap, 3-2.

The inaugural event in 2016 featured Penn State versus Michigan in both men's basketball and hockey. More than 25,000 fans attended the doubleheader. Michigan posted a 79-72 win on the hardwood, and a 6-3 victory in hockey.

No one really showed up, though. The crowd was extremely sparse.

The official attendance for this afternoon's game: 4,136. The arena has a capacity of more than 20,000.

This really shouldn't surprise anyone, of course. Ohio State and Minnesota do have a decent amount of alumni in New York, but many of them aren't going to go to Madison Square Garden on a Saturday afternoon in January to watch their teams play.

Those who did show up got to witness a nice performance by the Buckeyes, at least. Ohio State beat Minnesota, 67-49.

The Buckeyes improved to 17-4 on the season, 8-0 in the conference. The Golden Gophers fell to 14-8, 3-6 in the league.
