Bronny James Will Have Some Famous Classmates At USC Next Year
USC commit Bronny James will enter college as a household name because of his famous father. By staying in California, he won't be the only recognizable name on campus.
ESPN.com's Myron Medcalf chronicled USC's preparation for welcoming a popular student bound to make Trojans basketball games a high-demand ticket. However, it's an advantage to go to a school with more experience handling this situation.
"At USC, Bronny will join a class that includes the children of dignitaries, famous actors and actresses, politicians and athletes," Medcalf wrote. "In college basketball, however, he will be a prince, drawing a crowd wherever he goes."
While Bronny's family fame will bring extra attention, the school is used to beefing up security for the children of public figures. Sasha Obama, former President Barack Obama's daughter, and Princess Salma bint Abdullah of Jordan graduated earlier this month.
"We do have security plans in place for major events," Police Chief Lauretta Hill, USC's head of public safety, told Medcalf. "We also have active threat management and assessment units. That threat unit is constantly monitoring social media for any types of threats or issues that may come up so we could change our posture if we needed to."
Bronny isn't USC's only notable basketball player. The Trojans will welcome Isaiah Collier and Juju Watkins, the nation's top-ranked men's and women's recruits.
James and Collier will team with DJ Rodman, the son of former Chicago Bulls star Dennis Rodman.
Natalia Bryant, the daughter of Kobe Bryant, also attends USC.
According to Medcalf, USC could create a separate VIP entrance for celebrities who want to watch Bronny and the Trojans.
