There will be no undefeated season for Gonzaga.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 in the nation, won their first 29 games of the season – establishing themselves as one of the favorites heading into this year’s NCAA Tournament. But getting that 30th straight victory proved to be more difficult than fans would have hoped.
Gonzaga lost to BYU on Saturday night in its regular season finale, ending the campaign with a 29-1 mark. Two late buckets by the Cougars, coupled with two turnovers by the Bulldogs, ended the run at perfection. Here’s video of the final few possessions.
What does this mean for the Zags? Assuming they still win the WCC Tournament, probably not much. They should be on the 1-line regardless. It’s also arguable that a loss like this – even this late in the season – could actually help rally the players heading into the postseason.
